Romanian CC Commission
Brief history
Romanian CC has a long tradition going all the way back to the 19th century when the first CC game was played between J.Sachetti-V.Costin.
Although correspondence chess continued to be an important activity, the official forming of the CC Commission part of Romanian Chess Federation happened only in 1959 at the initiative of Eng. Constantin Stefaniu.
In 1961 Romania became an official member of the ICCF family.
Over the years the CC Commision functioned under different designations part of, or independent from Romanian Chess Federation.
Today CC Commission is part of Romanian Chess Federation with the current elected president Radu Breahna.
Romanian CC has always had great results on the international scene. Players like Mihail Breaz, Gheorghe Rotariu, Vladimir Salceanu, Aurel Anton, Sergiu Samarian, V. Vasile Demian, Gheorghe Telbis, Mircea Dabija, Gheorge Martin and others are well known, respected names.
Our contribution has not been limited to playing chess only, but Constantin Stefaniu and Paul Diaconescu served over the years as invaluable members of ICCF Executive. Paul served with success as Vice-President and General Secretary. Also Romania hosted the 1976 Congress in Bucharest.
After a fading participation in the 90s, Romania comes back into the spotlight in 2002. This year two notable achievements have pushed us back into the elite: Vladimir Salceanu became European Champion and our olympic team qualified for the 14th Olympic Final.
These results are not exceptions as a new wave of players and teams are competing in top international events with good results.
2002 is also the year when the great tradition of friendly international matches has been continued by "All Romanians" group. "All Romanians" organized an 11 boards match vs a select team from IECC (International Email Chess Club).
These days the final touches are added to prepare the start of Paul Diaconescu memorial, one of the most important CC events ever organized by Romania.
Last but not least the appearance of this site became a necessity, filling a void and doing its best to promote Romanian CC and re-establish connections with our friends into chess from around the World.
